Remote Witnessing of Your Notice of Intended Marriage

Are you aware you can now have your Notice of Intended Marriage (NOIM) remotely witnessed via a video call?

What is the NOIM?

The NOIM is essential for getting married in Australia. It must be lodged with your celebrant a minimum of one month prior to your wedding and is valid for up to 18 months from the lodgement date.

How Remote Witnessing Works:

  • Fill Out the Form: Complete the NOIM form from the Australian Government website or use the one I email you.
  • Get Your Documents Ready:
  • Photo ID (driver’s license or passport)
  • Birth certificate or passport
  • If previously married, a divorce or death certificate
  • Video Call: Schedule a call where I’ll witness you signing the NOIM and verify your documents. This can be sone over Zoom, Messenger or any other video platform. It must be an audible & visual medium.
  • Send the document: Email a scanned copy or post the signed NOIM to me.

Benefits of Remote Witnessing:

  • Flexible scheduling
  • Accessible from anywhere
  • Saves travel time and costs

Requirements for the Video Call:

  • Device with camera and microphone
  • Stable internet connection
  • Completed NOIM form and original ID documents

Is This Legal?

Yes, remote witnessing is legal in Australia when done correctly.

Who Benefits?

  • Couples living far from their celebrant
  • Destination wedding planners
  • Those valuing convenience and efficiency

Who’s eligible?

An Australian Celebrant can only witness signatures for people residing in Australia.  People residing overseas need to get their NOIM witnessed by the parties identified under the Act.

Note: Real Consent

A Celebrant must still meet each party separately in person before their marriage to ascertain their consent.

Lodgement Fee

A non-refundable lodgement fee is transferred to me when lodging the  NOIM to secure your wedding date.

Next Steps:

Once the NOIM is lodged, we can plan your ceremony and ensure everything runs smoothly. Ready to start? Let’s schedule a video call and get your wedding paperwork done easily and efficiently.
